BASIC ACCOUNTABILITY

The Community Relations Manager  oversees the day to day operations of Community Relations supervisors and their teams. Creates Devon’s community outreach strategies, organizes team efforts around Devon’s strategic giving and community engagement priorities, represents the company at community functions and leads the Community Relations team to successful outcomes.

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Affairs, Communications, Marketing or other related field.

 

EXPERIENCE

Requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience in Community Relations, Communications or Public Affairs with at least 3 years of related supervisory experience.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead all areas of the Community Relations function, including Devon’s charitable giving, community outreach programs, and capital gifts.
  • Work in a proactive and seamless way with multiple internal and external stakeholders.  Internal stakeholders include, but are not limited to, all members of Devon’s Executive Committee, Vice Presidents, Business Unit leaders, Devon Ambassadors, Human Resources, Security, Emergency Management, Legal teams, Communications, External Affairs, and Government Affairs. External Stakeholders include, but are not limited to, partner agencies CEOs and leadership teams, first responder leaders and teams, public relations organizations, community groups such as Rotaries and Chambers of Commerce, local officials, and educational organizations.    
  • Develop and implement community investment strategy; leverage donations and negotiate sponsorship benefits.
  • Develop and manage corporate giving budget.  Lead discussions with Devon’s Community Relations Committee to evaluate and approve annual budget. Provide updates throughout the year to the Committee, ensuring engagement and transparency of spending.
  • Develop and manage community partnerships and programs; serve as first point of contact for community partners.
  • Represent the company at community events.
  • Coordinate the Devon Volunteer Network program, tutoring and mentoring programs, employee community volunteer initiatives, fundraising events, and employee events.
  • Coordinate community engagement activities, including tours, visits and presentations.
  • Ensure key opinion leaders understand Devon’s presence and impact; work seamlessly with Business Unit leaders, External Affairs and Governmental Affairs, and assist as appropriate. 
  • Lead Devon’s company-wide Give for Good campaigns, accounting for local needs unique to each field location. 

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Oil and Gas industry knowledge and experience preferred

  • Advanced understanding of community relations and investment to effectively partner in accomplishing business and communication objectives

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Able to work well under pressure and extended hours as needed
