POSITION SUMMARY

Community Relations Specialist based in the Permian Basin and supporting Devon’s operations in Southeast New Mexico and West Texas, where Devon has a vibrant business presence. This person serves as the first-line connection between Devon employees and the community, including business and civic leaders and public officials. The position is primarily focused on local community outreach activities that reflect the company’s strong core values and enhance its social license to operate.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Develop and implement the company’s community outreach programs in its Permian Basin operating region (Southeast New Mexico and West Texas), ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
• Build and maintain stakeholder relationships, communicate accurate and timely information to key audiences and proactively engage in the communities where we operate.
• Develop and implement community investment strategy, employee volunteer initiatives and workplace giving campaigns for the region.
• Manage relationships with nonprofit partner organizations.
• Coordinate strategic community involvement opportunities for field employees, including nonprofit, civic and business organization involvement and board and committee placement.
• Provide communications counsel and support to business unit management and field employees. Coordinate with Corporate Communications to develop and implement region-specific communications, targeting both internal and external audiences.
• Coordinate community engagement activities including tours, visits, presentations, public events and media opportunities within the region.
• Support and help facilitate industry education/advocacy initiatives and participate in relevant industry associations and committees.
• Participate in incident management teams and support crisis response efforts, as needed.
• Serve as primary department interface with internal business unit management and field employees.

• Must have a balanced combination of knowledge, experience and skills, and/or the ability to acquire and improve them, which includes:

 

PREREQUISITES
• A minimum of five years of experience in community relations, public relations, public affairs, communications or related fields.
• Familiarity with the oil and natural gas industry in general; preferably in the exploration and production sector.
• Ability to quickly initiate, improve and maintain stakeholder relationships based on Devon leadership attributes and its corporate values that lead to its role as a respected corporate citizen.
• Solid educational background including at least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in public relations or communications.
• A proactive approach to gathering information and communicating it succinctly and quickly to executives, managers and employees.
• Excellent writing and verbal skills.
• Ability to continually prioritize efforts in response to changing situations and new information.
• Keen interest in making things happen as opposed to reacting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Demonstration of listed prerequisites in previous employment.

 

The position is located in Artesia, NM with regional travel approximately 25%.
